RIP Mehdi Favéris-Essadi aka DJ Mehdi

Around 8 AM this morning reports started to flood in on Twitter with news of DJ Mehdi's death. Initially thought (and hoped) to be a hoax, it was soon confirmed by several media outlets. Apparently the roof he and his friends were standing on, during Riton's birthday party, collapsed. Worst birthday ever. It's a sad day for the music industry today as Mehdi was well respected, and loved, as a producer and DJ. His duo with Riton, Carte Blanche, was becoming extremely popular globally, and he retained popularity in his solo work.

Born Mehdi Favéris-Essadi, to Tunisian parents in a northwestern suburb of Paris, Mehdi was a DJ and producer for several Hip-Hop groups. Working on remixes and collaborations for and with superstars such as Daft Punk, Cassius and Chromeo, Mehdi rose to prominence in both the Parisian and international scenes. Mehdi signed up with Busy P's Ed Banger Records, were the two produced and DJed together, at several successful nightclubs. Mehdi was quoted as saying on the topic of being a working DJ: "I like to be the DJ, I love it so much. I love to try new things. You would never get into this business to be bored, or you would hope not.” A sentiment I can not agree with more.

Audio, Video, Disco

New Justice again!? Whoa. Pretty dope video, not a bad track either. I'm mostly just stoked that it seems like they're gearing up for an album release finally.

It's Been A Long Time, I Shouldn't Have Left You.

Oh shit, has it been a while! Sorry to about the five people who read this, and have probably forgotten all about it. Once again I'm unemployed and have no excuse as to why I haven't fucking updated this shit. So much has come out! Where the fuck was I? Being a lazy douche, I guess. Quick pointless update on me: I live somewhere new. It's still Regina, but it's pretty rad none-the-less. As I said I'm unemployed. I was unceremoniously fired form the Freehouse after / during Connect (which was awesome. Nick Thayer killed it!). I'm not upset really (the job kinda sucked), but it's still an inconvenience as I'm now very broke, yet still having to pay rent and appease my drinking habit. Don't worry, I'll find something. I always do.

On a side note, I just finished watching The Art of Getting By with Freddie Highmore (Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, August Rush) and Emma Roberts (My Dreams). It was a solid indie-romantic-coming-of-age flick. I could see what was coming a mile away, but it was still enjoyable. I especially enjoyed Freddie Highmore's character, George, the fatalistic misanthrope, mostly because he reminded me of myself, but with the unrealistic luck to meet cute girls. In any case, peep it.

Music!

ZZT - Vulkan Alarm by VeeAre
ZZT has pumped out a few tracks this year, but this is probably my fav so far. I think it could benefit from a skilled re-edit that pumped it up a bit, but what the fuck do I know? That flat beat and feedback-esque sound are still pretty tight.

Fabian - Last Flight by iamFabian
Fabian's Last Flight is a light, fun and sexy nu-disco romp that would certainly get the bitches krumping. I find the lyrics amusing, as I've had similar experiences with blacking out. I'd also recommend the Reset! remix.

Rogerseventytwo - You Take Me Higher (Geisha Twins Late For Work Edit) (Free Download) by Geisha Twins
I'm really looking forward to dropping this one at a good party. I'm saving it up till that time comes around. I really dig the aggressive yell in the vocals.

DJ EQ - Sunset BLVD (Go Go Bizkitt! Remix) Out July 26th//Stardust Records by Go Go Bizkitt!
Always a favorite, Go Go Bizkitt once again delivers with some sweet, sweet disco infused French House. I love that a Scottish dude is reppin' it so hard. My people always bring the noize. I recommended him to a friend as a potential headliner for Connect next year. He's not super huge yet, so I think it could be doable. Totally worth the money.

Niki & The Dove - Mother Protect (Alex Metric Remix) by Seek Electromance
Ah, Alex Metric, you can do no wrong in my eyes. I really dug the original track, and the same goes for this remix. This is gonna be a bit contrary to my opening comment, but does anyone else think that Alex might be a bit too attached to some of his signature sounds? I don't know, could just be me. His style is still totally rad, I just don't want him to rest on his laurels.

Anyway, that's it for tonight. I promise to try to update more often. Maybe give me some feedback, or follow my blog so I have a bit more motivation, motherfuckers!
